Date: Tuesday, December 25 – MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Scripture: Matthew 6:19-21
Verse: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21)
Today is the day we celebrate the greatest gift ever given, the greatest gift anyone can give to those they love. Today is the day we celebrate when God gave the gift of himself to us. A gift so wondrous it is impossible to fully comprehend. The gift of the Almighty God given in a way we as humans can receive. The creator of the universe confined in the weakness of a baby, born in poverty, and laid in a manger.
We celebrate by giving gifts to one another. Some gifts we will cherish for a long time, maybe the rest of our lives. Other gifts won’t make it to February. Today’s passage reminds us the gifts we give to one another are not permanent. We are called instead to treasure the true gift of Christmas, the baby Jesus, who came that we might have new life – abundant and eternal.
May your Christmas be a great celebration of the gift of Jesus! And may you celebrate it every day!
Prayer: Thank you God for the gift of yourself this Christmas. Let me live as one whose treasure is with you in him. Amen.
Action: In the midst of your giving and receiving, reflect on the true gift of Christmas.
